Frequently Asked Questions

Do all Indian banks calculate RD interest in exactly the same way?

No. Recurring deposits are term deposits, but the precise maturity calculation can depend on the bank's product terms, instalment dates, interest-credit or compounding convention and rounding. BankTools therefore labels the result as an estimate.

Is RD better than FD?

They serve different cash-flow needs. An RD lets you invest regularly from monthly income, while an FD puts a lump sum to work immediately. Comparing only the maturity amount is misleading if the timing of the invested money is different.

Is RD interest taxable?

Recurring-deposit interest can be taxable under the applicable income-tax rules. This calculator shows a pre-tax maturity estimate and does not treat tax withheld at source as the final tax liability.

What happens if I miss an RD instalment?

The effect depends on the bank and product. Delayed or missed instalments can attract charges or change the maturity outcome, so this calculator assumes all instalments are paid on schedule.
