Frequently Asked Questions

Why are bank-specific rates not shown?

Rates vary by issuer, card variant and time. A static bank-rate table can become misleading, so this calculator asks for the current monthly finance-charge rate shown in your own card terms or statement.

If I pay the minimum amount due, do I avoid interest?

No. Paying the minimum due does not normally eliminate finance charges on the remaining revolving balance. It can also affect the interest-free treatment of new purchases according to the issuer's terms.

Is the annual rate simply monthly rate × 12?

That gives a nominal annualised rate. If you want to understand the compounding effect of a monthly rate over a year, the effective annual rate is higher and is shown separately.

Will this exactly match my credit-card statement?

Not necessarily. Exact finance charges depend on transaction dates, payments, cash advances, payment allocation, taxes, fees and your issuer's methodology. Use the calculator to understand scale and scenarios.
