Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the effective annual rate different from the nominal rate?
When interest is compounded more than once a year, interest earned in earlier periods can itself earn interest. The effective annual rate captures that compounding effect.
Does more frequent compounding always mean a better actual deposit?
Not necessarily. That statement only holds when comparing the same nominal rate and otherwise identical terms. Real products can quote rates differently and have different taxes, fees and payout rules.
Can I enter a tenure such as 2 years 7 months?
Yes. Years and additional months are handled separately so you do not need to approximate a partial year.
